The time my Dad spent in the Navy had a major influence on him, understandably. I grew up listening to a lot of stories, all of the inside shit, like what the boys would do with their spare time and money, for example. I couldn't help but grow to be intrigued by the allure of it all, soldiers are heavy fucking people. A friend of mine from junior high totally changed his shit around after high school and joined the Army, and he became like one of the most intense dudes ever. He wants to be a lifer and no longer knows the world outside of wherever he's stationed. I've hypothetically thought about it before, more for disciplinary reasons, but I couldn't hack it for two seconds. I so often imagine what the women in the army are like - you want to picture them all being total babes kicking ass and crushing beers in cutoff khaki shirts. These photos are by Rachel Papo, they document the lives of eighteen year-old female Israeli soldiers 'plucked from their lives' and individuality for two years to train in the military. She has mixed feelings about the necessity to serve, seeing as she was once in the same position as her subjects. She believes that at their age, they should be discovering themselves without boundaries. While I agree, the conditions they live, work, and learn in would definitely prove to be a test of their character. I find the photos beautifully raw, the girls stay feminine and display that hopefully-upbeat vibe that females seem to have even in the worst of times.

Girls with guns are fucking fine...

I joined up just to leave this comment Tabatha as I've recently come back from Israel.

Too start with "cupcakesandmixtapes" it's an M16. The Israel army uses M16's sold to them by the United States. AK-47's being a sign of the Palestinian and Middle Eastern resistance (see Fatah and Hezbollah (sp?)) are never used by the Israel's.

"theJewessbitch" is correct. While I was in Israel the female IDF members were among some of the most attractive I have ever seen (this is true in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem at least).

While I was waiting for my flight to Israel I got talking to an Israel woman and the concept of military service really is something thats dug into the culture and society. While she said she didn't always enjoy her service she and all her friends felt that it was an important thing to do for the country. She also told me that those who manage to get out of the 2 years IDF service end up being looked down upon in some respect.

I hate to spam (and this may get blocked) but here's a few pictures I caught of people/couples in Israel (off duty) with M16's;

i love this post!
Women in the army tend to be more independent and stronger
(of course). I know this because Im in the Army. I love the feeling of knowing that im doing something millions of people wouldnt have the courage to do and im proud of being in the military. And I love the rush that comes from shooting an M16

i knew homegirl in the first pic was Israeli even before reading the text to your post. Female Israeli soldiers are seriously some of most beautiful people i've ever come in contact with inside & out. They're all so sweet, strong, caring, passionate, loving, i can't even think of the words to describe what great people they all are. Their love for their country and fellow soldiers evoked a feeling i'd never even come close to feeling for the US and is truly something to be admired. In fact i feel a closer connection to Israel than the US & i'm only half israeli. I just went on a rant but I love this post Tab
